Dokusan

  • During every other meeting, the head teacher or a designated guest will provide community members with the opportunity for a one-on-one interview, known as Dokusan.
  • On Dokusan meeting days, the head teacher or designated guest will ask the group sometime before the second meditation period if there is anyone who wishes to meet or work on a Koan.
  • Dokusan meetings will occur during the second sitting period, either in an adjacent room or outside when space is limited. In the absence of the teacher, a designated group member will be asked to keep time and ring the gong as appropriate.
  • After the teacher or designated person leaves the room, they will ring a bell to signify when they are available to meet. The person furthest to the left of the teacher (from the teacher’s perspective) will be first to leave the meditation room and meet with teacher, followed clockwise by the next person.
